Dear LE Bateman,
According to RPA subject Greystoke, Alice was a
daughter of Hugh Audley, Lord Audley who married Iseult de Mortimer, Hugh was a
son of James Audley and Ela Longespee, grandson of William Longespee, 2nd
Earl of Salisbury of that family and Idoine de Camville, Great grandson of
William Longespee, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Ela, daughter and heiress of William
Talvas, 3rd Earl of Salisbury of that creation, 2nd Great grandson of King
Henry II of England and his mistress Ida (said by some to be a de Toeni), and
latterly wife of Roger le Bigod, 2nd Earl of Norfolk. Alice married 1st) Ralph de
Greystoke, 3rd Lord Fitz william and 1st Lord Greystoke and 2nd Ralph de
Neville, 2nd Lord Neville of Raby; mother of the heir to both baronies and yes,
grandmother of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmoreland. The Tuchets came later
on the opposite side of the Audley family tree, descending from James Audley`s
son Nicholas.
Sincerely,
