C.P. Addition: Marriage of Margery Lady Hastings & John Wymo

Dear Newsgroup ~

Sometime ago, I posted regarding a marriage date for Margery Clifton,
Lady Hastings, and her 2nd husband, John Wymondham or Wyndham.
Complete Peerage mentions this marriage, but gives no date for their
union. In my former post, I quoted a record from the helpful online
A2A Catalogue which shows this couple were married in or before 1442
(see copy of my original post below).

The marriage date of this couple can be narrowed down still further.
The book, Hundred of Launditch and Deanery of Brisley, by Carthew, 2
(1878): 646 includes a list of the institutions to the church of
Brisley, Norfolk. Carthew shows that Richard de Nekeson was presented
to Brisley on 12 July 1440, by John Windham, Esq., in right of the
dower of his wife, Margery, widow of Edward Lord Hastings. As such, it
is clear that John Windham, Esq., and his wife, Margery Lady Hastings,
were married sometime before 12 July 1440.

For interest's sake, I've listed below the names of the 17th Century
colonial immigrants who descend from Sir Edward Hastings and his 1st
wife, Muriel Dinham:

1. William Asfordby.

2. George & Nehemiah Blakiston.

3. William Farrar.

4. Anne, Elizabeth & John Mansfield.

5. William Skepper.

Dear Newsgroup ~

Complete Peerage 6 (1926): 358-360 (sub Hastings) has a good account
of the history of Sir Edward Hastings (died 1438), of Elsing, Norfolk.
The editor states he married "2ndly, Margery, da. of Sir Robert
Clifton, of Bokenham, Norfolk, by Alice his wife." Following Sir
Edward Hastings' death, his widow, Margery, married "as 1st wife, John
Wymondham or Wyndham, of Felbridge and Runton, Norfolk."

No date is given in Complete Peerage for the marriage of Margery
(Clifton) Hastings and John Wymondham. However, the lease cited below
found in the A2A Catalogue (http://www.a2a.org.uk/search/index.asp)
shows that Lady Margery Hastings and John Wymondham were married in or
before 1442:

Dear Douglas,

Not sure whether there is any connection but a John Wymondham (Wyndom)
married Elizabeth de Redesham (widow of Sir John Heveningham) some time after July
1453. (Source : the Paston Letters). This Elizabeth was the daughter of
Sir John de Redesham of Redesham in Suffolk.. In addition to Heveningham and
Wymondham she was also the wife of William Allington.

It is said that Elizabeth's son, Sir John Heveningham was against her
re-marriage to John Wyndham. She is said to have married him because he paid off
the Heveningham family debts.
