Message from Ian Archer, Literary Director, Royal Historical Society and
General Editor, Royal Historical Society Bibliography on British and Irish
History:

I am glad to hear that the Texts and Calendars series is found useful, and I
would like to reassure you that we shall shortly be offering an enhanced
version of the listings of record society publications on the RHS web site
integrated with the RHS Bibliography: ie: when you open up an individual
society's publications, you will in effect search the RHS Bibliography for
works under that series, and that will bring with it all the additional
information and linkages the Bibliography provides.

This has involved us in quite a lot of work in tidying up our own indexing
which for many series in the underlying data was inconsistent. Hence the
delay, but the work is essentially complete.

There is a little glitch: because of a changeover in the secretarial
staff at the
RHS, we cannot implement this on the web site immediately, but I will
communicate your eagerness, and try to get it moved up the 'to-do' list.

Many thanks

Ian Archer

Does anyone know what happened to Texts and Calendars since 1982? It
was available online from the Historical Manuscripts Commission, and I
had linked to it from Duke's online catalog and my British History
page. When you click that link (http://www.hmc.gov.uk/socs/over.htm
) you get a message saying it was being transferred to the Royal
Historical Society webpage, but it never appeared there. (BTW, even
the Bodleian still has the dead link on their History page.)

Since this publication never appeared in print and was just available
online its disappearance is extremely disturbing, and a good example
of the poor archival nature of the internet. If anyone on H-Albion
has any influence with the RHS please encourage them to put it up as
soon as possible!
