As apparently one of those who can claim descent from the House of
David, I would like to call "dibs" on the Kingdom of Jerusalem or Outremer as my
more Medieval ancestors called it. Now I know that many of you are probably
likewise descended but really let's not push and shove, we're all adults here, at
least in age. I called dibs first, that's the rule.

I want some territory in the south where it's warm. And a castle with
air conditioning. Bronwen

Dear Will (aka Will the Conqueror ?),

I'm all for politeness and such, but that's not much of an
original family attribute.

Harold Godwinsson had to play hard against some well-known
latecomers (worked better on bridges than on hills), so we know how
well "first dibs" worked there. Of course there is the technical
matter of his promises (alleged) in Normandy.......

Speaking of latecomers, the Kingdom of Jerusalem sounds fine and
all (quite attractive to pilgrims and plunderers for some time) -
however I'd recommend calling "first dibs" where there are fewer
claimants already in line...... and not so well armed.

The Shetlands, maybe?
Cheers,

John
