Ancestry of St Arnulf

I have had to start a new thread as for some reason I don't seem able
to call up the right page on google to post a follow-up onto the
"Merovingian line" thread.
I am a bit puzzled by the pedigrees proposed. If the Vita Gundulfi
calls Arnulf son of Bodegisel and nepos of Gundulf, and Gundulf is
known to be a son of Munderic, doesn't that make Bodegisel a son of
Munderic rather than of Mummolen? What is the justification for
inserting the latter between the other two, is it due to chronological
grounds or other reasons?

And what about the possibility that Arnulf was "nepos" on his mother's
side, rather than his father's?

Nepos can mean grand-nephew as well as nephew or grandson.
