I was wondering if anyone knows the surname of John FitzRoger's wife
Alice. They had a daughter, Elizabeth, born about 15 Aug 1370 that
married John Bonville. While going through Vivian's Visitations of
Cornwall, I came across an Alice Carminow, daughter of Ralph Carminow
and Alice, who had a daughter Elizabeth and grandson, William Bonville.
Would this Elizabeth be Elizabeth FitzRoger? Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure that her surname is known - I recall seeing her called Alice
Cheddar but on what authority I have no idea.
A series of brief articles on the Bonville (called Bonvyle) family appeared
in _Notes & Queries_, 5th series, that is available online (I can't find the
URL at present, someone else no doubt can help) - by SWYL in no. 6 (December
1876) p. 447, by Sir John Maclean in no. 7 (January 1877) p. 52, and by BW
Greenfield in nos. 7 ( (March 1877) pp. 231-232] & 8 (December 1877) pp.
431-432. Maybe the answer is there.

Re: Question on Alice ?, wife of John FitzRoger
The Alice the wife of John Fitz Roger isn't known. All that is known of
her is that she was married five times and her last husband was Sir
William Bonville 1340-1408. The name of Cheddar I recall is the name of
one of her husband. I hope this helps.

Re: Question on Alice ?, wife of John FitzRoger
Alice's five husbands were:
John FitzRoger of Chewton, Somerset d. bef. 1372
Sir Edmund de Clyvedon d. 1376
Sir Ralph Carminowe of Carminowe and Boconnoc, Cornwall d. 1386
Sir John Rodney of Rodney Stoke and Backwell, Somerset d. 1400
Sir William Bonville of Shute, Devonshire d. 1408
She died 1426. Sir John Rodney's first wife was Katherine Cheddar of Bristol
which is where that connection or suggested identity may have come from.
