In a 1990 article titled, "The Origins and Accession of Leo V (813-820)" (Jahrbuch der Eosterreichischen Byzantinistik, vol. 40, pp. 171-203), David Turner theorized that Leo Skleros' wife Eirene was a daughter of Bardanes Tourkos (general, patrician, strategos of the Anatolikon 802-803, etc.) and his wife Domnika. Turner also concluded that Domnika was the sister of the patrician Bardas, father of Emperor Leo V "the Armenian." If I'm following Turner, he also seems to imply that Leo Skleros and Eirene were the ancestors of the later Skleroi, among whom would be the Empress Theophano -- assuming we follow the current consensus about her parentage (i.e. the argument put forth by Gunther Wolf).

In a 1992 article, "La Transition Entre Mythe et Realite" (Archivum, vol. 37, pp. 27-67), Christian Settipani indicated that Bardanes Tourkos was a noble of half-Armenian and half-Khazar parentage (p. 36), and on this same page he identifies the patrician Bardas (father of Leo V and brother of Domnika, in Turner's view) as a prince of the "Arcrouni" (or Artsrouni?).

Has anything further or more substantial been published on the ancestry of Bardanes Tourkos, his wife Domnika, and the patrician Bardas (father of Leo V)?

Thanks.
