House of Converted Jews?

Hello All and Season's Greetings,

While researching the Agmondesham family of Surrey, England, I came upon
an interesting occupation.

According to William Bray's _History and Antiquities of the County of
Surrey_ (1804), vol. 3, p. 29, "Sir Walter Agmondesham, temp. Henry III.
Warden of the House of Converted Jews (now the Rolls), 27 Oct. 18
Edward I."

What pray tell is the House of Converted Jews? And what would the role
of a warden be at such an institution?

I did find this reference to Rolls Chapel in Chancery Lane at
http://www.londonancestor.com/stow/stow-church-138.htm. Is it simply
the case that Sir Walter was the guardian of government papers in the
confiscated home of a Jew? (This does not sound admirable at all.)

Any further insight on this institution and role would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Regards,

JP
