Esselegh from Saint Clair

From CP (Sub Orty) I find the wife of Richard "the Younger" Revel identified
as Mabel, sister of Walter de Esselegh who apparently died in 1246 when
Mabel became his heir. Footnote "g" on page 182 suggests that Mabel and
Walter are descendants of Bretel, the Domesday tenant of Ashbrittle.

DP (page 170) identifies Bretel as Bretel de Saint Clair holding Stoke
Trister, and his successor, whom I presume to be his son, is identified as
William de Saint Clair. Walter de Ashley is said to hold Stoke Trister in
1172.

In DD (pp. 686-687), William de Saint Clair is further described, and
identified as the possible son of Bretel. He is said to be possibly the
father of Philip de Saint Clair and of Walter de Esselegh (Ashleigh), and
Walter is said to hold Stoke Trister in 1166. This Walter appears to be the
same as the one described on page 449 who was apparently alive as late as
1212. Walter de Eislee reportedly held his fee in 1242.

This would seem to suggest the following descent to Mabel:

1. Bretel de Saint Clair
2. William de Saint Clair
3. Walter de Esselegh
4. Mabel de Esselegh=Richard "the Younger" Revel
5. Sabine Revel=Henry del Ortiay

I note also that footnote "g" refers to an article by Rev. E.H. Bates
published in "Som. Arch. Journal" (vol. xlii, p.35) in which a pedigree is
proposed. The article is on the Urtiaco (Ortiay/Orty) family, and I'm
wondering if someone might have access to this and could share its contents
with me. I am interested in the Urtiaco/Revel/Esselegh families and would
like to know if additional generations are identified. For example, DD
(page 1100) describes a Richard Revel who was active as late as 1190. Is he
the same person as Richard "the Younger" described by CP? If there is a
Richard "the Younger," then who might Richard "the Elder" be?

Are there any comments regarding the line to Mabel? Can anyone add anything
to the line?

Sincerely,

Gordon Kirkemo
