"> > Precisely. Both Gospel genealogies for Joseph are (like all Biblical
genealogies, OT and NT) only through the male line. It's impossible for
Joseph to have had TWO different male-line descents from David--so one
of
the two must be in some way false, whether by fabrication or by error."

John, there is no reputable Bibical scholar (fundamentalist' aside) who actually believe either genealogy is purporting to represent the entire male-line descent to Joseph.

Think about it. A thousand years and only 12 generations? Doesn't it occur to you there is something wrong there?

Have you ever wondered why only TWO generations were born in Egypt in 430 years? That doesn't strike you as perhaps .... unusual in some way? And then you're postulating that from David to Joseph is how many generations and how many years?
This kind of literal reading is for those who cannot be bothered to actually understand the underlying issues.
