Since these two have come up recently.
Does anyone know where they died and are buried?
Thanks.

Re: William Earl of Wiltshire md Eleanor De Vitre
Dear Ed,
Looking at your message, I wish you gave us a little more information. I
went to my website and by Name Search, by Title I changed Start with to
Contains and entered Earl of Wiltshire and two Williams appeared. William le
Scrope born about 1350 and William Paulet born about 1587. I believe you
want William le Scrope (who was not married to a Eleanor de Vitre), and he
was beheaded in Bristol CP XII/2 page 733 footnote a "His headwas sent to
London in a white basket and placed over London Bridge, whence it was
delivered to his widow". No mention of burial.
William Paulet, was buried at Tisbury.
With Eleanor de Vitre, I went to my website under Name Search I entrered
under Last Name (contains) and Vitr I did this because the last e has an
accent, and how would Alianore/Eleonore be spelled. The list gave several
but only one Eleonor, according to CP XI 378 she died 1232/1233 married (1)
William Paynel and (2) Gilbert Crispin, she was buried at the Abbey of
Mondaye, Bayeux. Still, I cannot be sure this is the Eleanor you are after.
Hope this helps a little.
Best wishes

Leo, your database has the information sought: except this William is
William Fitzpatrick, earl of Salisbury, third husband (out of four) of
this last named Eleanor de Vitré, together in-laws to William Longespee.
He (William Fitzpatrick) is buried at Bradenstoke; she at Mondaye.
Rosie made a post on Eleanor a while ago, citing a long note with
confirmation of her burial place (see: http://tinyurl.com/5dbcy ).

Re: William Earl of Wiltshire md Eleanor De Vitre
I would only add that I think the location of Ela de Vitre's burial is
still open for discussion as the evidence for Mondaye is not
conclusive. Although she had intended to be bruied at the abbey,
there is some evidence that she may have been buried at Bradenstoke
Priory. See a rather long post of mine in the archives on May 18,
2003.
Best, Linda

Oh. Rosie's post I referred to earlier cited another discussion of
Eleanor, in the footnotes to the Norman exchequer rolls: "Rot. Scacc.
Norm. ii, p. xliv n., where there is a long note on Eleanor and her
connections." Does this offer no independent evidence on Eleanor's
burial? I missed your earlier post and had no idea the question was so
open.
