inquisitions post mortem

Legg inn av CASTLES U » 15 nov 2004 05:18:14

Hi, I am a new subscriber, so my apologies if this topic has already been
addressed. I am wondering, were inquisitions post mortem solely a medieval
phenomenon? If not, does anyone know how long they continued to be held?
Thank you,

They continued until the reign of Charles I. The PRO website gives the final
date for the main series as "c. 1640", but apparently the series for the
Palatinate of Cheshire continued until c. 1645. Feudal tenure was formally
abolished at the Restoration in 1660.

Hi Chris, thank you for the info. I was having trouble determining the ending

date. I appreciate your assistance!
