Request from Hines or no request, Doug's posting a review of his own book to
the list represents a new low in scholastic self-advertisement. Aren't we
capable of looking up reviews if we want to...? This is pathetically
detestable.
Please let me know if you receive this. I am having real trouble getting
emails to & from my sister in ATL & we can't figure out why. Don't seem to
be having trouble anywhere else though.
Thanks

Errant Twaddle And Envious Persiflage. Vide infra.
Mr. Richardson is behaving quite responsibly and astutely to date on
this matter.

Richardson Secretly -- And Trying To Get Him Censured -- But Parsons
Sent It To The Newsgroup By "Accident." Hilarious!

Others can point to additional reviews as well -- including those of
Parsons' books -- which are noteworthy.

Re: A New Low
And Hines STILL says that.
No one is prohibited from posting OTHER reviews of PA3 -- both pro and
con -- or links to those reviews.
Parsons, _au contraire_, wants CENSORSHIP -- and tried to engender it by
nefarious, back-channel means.
Bad Show....

Re: A New Low
I don't particularly have a problem with being informed about reviews of new
genealogical works - if for no other reason than to see if their opinions
coincide with mine (and so far, they don't, in the case of RPA).
But what was posted as a "review" was essentially a promotional piece on a
site selling RPA. Even Hines should be able to recognize that this was
certainly not a scholarly review. It was unsigned, leading one to wonder
who wrote it - especially since a large part of it was lifted straight (word
for word) from the introductory pages of RPA.
In one of his rare lucid comments, Hines mentions that we "should gain the
benefits of reading the analyses and
critiques -- both pro and con -- sans censorship or elision or editorial
bias." If anybody thinks we're going to get this from Richardson -- well,
I've got a bridge to sell you .... or, to keep this on topic, a great
undiscovered medieval lineage for an ancestor of your choice!
