FITZWARIN & BEAUCHAMP

I am a newbie at medieval genealogy (and new to this list), but from

my perusal of the archives I see that there seems to be a wealth of

knowledge among the list members, and in particular I note there is

already an interest in the FITZWARIN and BEAUCHAMP families,

so I am turning here for help -

Most sources state THOMAS LITTLETON (or Luttelton or Lyttelton)

married (2) ANSELM or ASCELINE/A , daughter of WILLIAM

FITZWARIN of Upton.

However, William F. Carter, in his lengthy article "Pedigree of the

Family of Lyttleton" (_The Genealogist_, 37:1 (1921), pp. 1-29) presents

evidence from various charters to support his conclusion that ASCELINE

was the daughter of WARIN who was the son of WILLIAM and that

her mother was HAWISE DE BEAUCHAMP. Carter states (p. 27):

"[THOMAS LITTLETON's wife] was ASCELINA, daughter of WARIN

OF UPTON (-Warren), Worcestershire, by HAWIS DE BEAUCHAMP,

descended from NICHOLAS DE BEAUCHAMP the Sheriff of

Staffordshire at the time of Domesday Book. It is possible that WARIN

was descended from WARIN OF METZ, the ancestor of the Fitzwarines

of Shropshire. WILLIAM, son of WARIN OF UPTON and brother of

ASCELINA, was Sheriff of Worcestershire under the Beauchamps, the

hereditary Sheriffs, in 1229."

Can anyone place HAWISE in the Beauchamp family tree?

I have seen where WARIN DE METZ is attributed a son WILLIAM of

"Burwardsley" or "Broseley," and it would seem to follow that he

would name a son WARIN in honor of his father.

Could this be the WARIN OF UPTON?

I have not yet attempted to work this out chronologically to determine if it is

even plausible, but with a lack of access to decent sources this may be

problematic - perhaps this is where you all come in?

Any enlightenment is greatly appreciated.
