Dear Listing:

I just today received a book that I had order previously to this line of
discussion:

COLUMBUS THEN AND NOW: A LIFE REEXAMINED by Miles H. Davison. Norman, OK:
University of Oklahoma Press, 1997. On pages 4-9.

This books was in their sale catalog for $11.00

TEL: 1-800-627-7377

It seems that Christopher Columbus' father was Dominico Columbo and his
grandfather was Johannes de Columbo (Giovanni Columbo in Italian), who lived in the
valley of Fontanabuono. Columbus and his family were in the wool trade. The
were said to be "Ligurian."

Pedro de Arana, a cousin of Columbus' mistress testified that he was from
Genoa, a seaport (of course). Pedro went on Columbus' third voyage across the
Atlantic. Another testimony, given in the _Pleitos_ said that Columbus was a
native of Savona, which is a town near Genoa. A Genoese civil court document
dated 1472, shows Christopher Columbus, as a citizen of Genoa in 1479.

His mother was named Susanna and his brothers were Bartolome and Diego.
There are records of the family living on the Ligurian coast of the Republic of
Genoa.
