Danish Wedding/Drinking Song

Legg inn av Art » 14. oktober 2007 kl. 1.05

When I was young, at marriages of decendents of Danish immigrants here
in the US, they would sing a song, which I think was an old Danish
drinking song. The main part that I remember was part of the refrain,
"Han ska leva, han ska leva" (not sure of the spelling). It was a song
with several verses.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, does anyone have a link the
the lyrics (and maybe a translation)?

Hi Art!
This should give you the words, much of it nonsense. Click on the MIDI at
the top for the melody.

.... the above is the "core" of a generally absurdly protracted medley
of short songs in which the following parts ar thrown in no particular
order, usually lead by whoever sings the loudest:

For hun er så ung og så yndig ser hun ud
for hun er så ung og så yndig ser hun ud

åh ja hende kan vi li'
åh ja hende kan vi li'
åh ja hende kan vi li'
hun skal i glas og ramme
det skal hun også komme
men ikke med det samme
for vi har ingen ramme
og det kan vær' det samme.

For han er en af vor egne
for han er en af vor egne
for han er en af vor eg-ne
en rigtig hængerøv
en rigtig hængerøv røvrøv
en rigtig hængerøv røvrøv
for han er en af vor eg-ne
en rigtig hængerøv røvrøv

Det var godt godt gjort
Det var godt godt gjort
i så ung en alder
Det var godt godt gjort
Det var godt godt gjort
i så ung en alder

Vi skåler med vore venner
og dem som vi kender
og dem som vi ikke kender
dem skåler vi med
SKÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅL

Vi skåler med vore værter
hvis ellers de er der
og hvis de så ikke er der
Så skåler vi selv
SKÅÅÅÅÅÅÅLLLL

The melodies are different, most of them old traditionals. The first
paragraph is in fact the final of a national-romantic song "Vort
modersmål er dejligt" (How beautiful our mother tongue). The third
paragraph is just a translated "For he's a jolly good fellow" and the
last two paragraphs are used with "We wish you a Merry Christmas".

Thanks to everyone for responding! Olaf got the right one. I remember
some of the other lines in the version he provided. It was pretty
traditional for it to be sung. And they were definitely Danes (1st, 2nd
and 3rd generation).
