Hei
The website at:
<http://www.disnorge.no/genress/index.php?todo=visKategori&kid=104041>
seems to list all the bygdeboker that are available for Skodje herred in
More og Romsdal. Gard #84 in Skodje consisted of 9 households in the
1901 census:
<http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f01529&gardpostnr=350#nedre>
had the gardnavn of Helland/Hellandshavn/Havnnaes. I'm having
difficulty in determining if there are any bygdeboker that include
Helland and have come up emptyhanded so far in my various lookups. Could
it have possibly been left out? I think it's more likely that I'm not
looking the right places.
Any guidance appreciated!

Yep - two books, one from 1961, and one from 1986. And they both are
listed in the index of local history books from the region - one in the
volume covering books published before 1970, one in the volume covering
books published 1971 or later.
So you have two books to have someone check - Ludvig Fylling's 1961
book og Louis Giske's 1986 book.
You are not saying what your various lookups have included.
Anything is possible. But other explanations are more probable.

Many thanks again for that tip and it clears up some confusion for me.
The main clues that I had been working on for my research were the names
"Helland" & "Hellandshavn", probably in More og Romsdal.
Helland (with Hellandshavn) is in Vatne.
During the
course of that searching, I had located many references to those names
and one in particular to the H-vinduet factory in Hellandshavn in Vatne.
Ever since I later successfully found the family in Skodje on the
Helland gard, I thought those Helland's must be 2 separate locations:
Vatne & Skodje. It's now clear that they are the same place since the
gard was in Skodje in 1901 (in the census) and in Vatne in 2005 (when I

My contact was absolutely thrilled when I found their family in the 1901
census. Most of them emmigrated to the US. Now I would like to find a
way for my contact to get copies of the Helland portion of that
bygdebok. They would naturally expect to pay for that effort, but it's
probably easiest if we could locate a source in the US.
Many thanks for your help!

The explanation:
In 1858 Skodje sokn and Vatne sokn ('sokn'= subparish) were separated
from Borgund prestegjeld ('prestegjeld'=parsih) to form the new Skodje
parish.
From (about) the same time, this constituted Skodje kommune ('kommune',

(Farm histories and genealogy)
Note: Volume 1 covers farm number 70 Klokset to farm number 95
Osgoten, and
Volume 2 covers farm number 96 Vatnehold to farm number 117
Høgset.
I would check out volume 1 of Vatne bygdebok, and see if it has a
farm
no 84 named Helland (or some reasonable approximation of Helland).

And a google search on seach terms Vatne bygdebok Helland yields:
Ancestors from Norway - Bygdebøker from Møre og Romsdal... Vatne
bygdebok. Gards- og ættesoge. By Harald Slyngstad ... Bringsvor,
Dalen, Halsen, Hammaren, Hatlebrekke, Haugsholmen med Frekøy,
Helland, Hola, ...

Apparently no longer on the listed web page, but confirms the info
you
were looking for. There is a Helland farm listed in Vatne bygdebok.
Thanks again for that. I was looking in the wrong place. The
website that shows:
Vatne bygdebok, Bind I
Gards- og ættesoge. G.nr. 70, Klokset-g.nr.95, Osgoten.
Forfattar Harald Slyngstad.
Utgjevar Haram kommune 1983. ISBN: 82-991046-0-2.
has a link to:
http://www.disnorge.no/genress/oppslager.php?id=130314
which looks like a way to ask some questions of somebody who has
access to the bygdebok.
Sorry - that web form it is a way for someone to register "I have
access to the book and am willing to do lookups for others".
Do you know if I should just leave my name & email address there?
Not unless you want to disappoint people contacting you in the hope
that you will do lookups for _them_
and what are the chances that person can speak English?
I realize that you have no way of knowing, but your guess is
going to be better than mine.
my guess is that the chance is about 99%...
Or at least 90+%. You might find a few people born before WW2 that
doesn't speak any English, but most of us know at least some English.
Good luck on finding more info on your ancestral farm.
My contact was absolutely thrilled when I found their family in the
1901 census. Most of them emmigrated to the US. Now I would like to
find a way for my contact to get copies of the Helland portion of
that bygdebok. They would naturally expect to pay for that effort,
but it's probably easiest if we could locate a source in the US.
Borgund/Haram/Skodje area - that's Møre og Romsdal province (fylke).
I would try to contact the genealogist of the Vestland (West Country)
bygdelag (home area association) in America. They have their web page
at http://www.fellesraad.com/vestlandslag.htm,
They will have their next stevne (meet) at Sioux Falls June 16th-18th
2005.

Too late now<lol> as I already did it a while ago. Won't they be surprised.

There is also the Vesterheim that I'd heard about:
http://vesterheim.org/index.php and which may have what we're looking for.
Thanks again
