If it'll help liven things up, I'll report a recent success: I finally
made contact with a branch of my great-grandmother Catherine Petersen's
family, one that had been lost to us (for reasons unknown) in the 1920s.

It came about because my third cousin posted a virtual post-it note to
the Rootsweb vital records for California (I had no idea this feature
was available). A mutual Petersen had died in Alameda County in 1959 and
he left comments about the surviving siblings. I saw the post-it,
tracked him down, and confirmed that he's the descendant of my
great-grandmother's brother.

Now he's got family history going back on this line to 1710 in Denmark,
and lots of photos he's never seen.
