I suppose you have already received an answer to your inquiry.
In any case, here is a solution to your problem.
The name of this bygd (settlement) in the municipality of Kvam by the shores
of Hardangerfjord is not Torvibygd but Tørvikbygd. (The second letter is not
o but ø,o with a slash, the 28th letter in the Dano-Norwegian alphabet).
You may find it on many maps, for instance on
http://www.opplysningen1881.no/Template ... 91&Query=t%u00f
8rvikbygd&AddressSearchType=Address&street=Heradstveitvegen&area=Kvam&gabix=

Good luck!

I'm having a touch time verifying the location of my grandfather's

If anyone has info, I'd sure appreciate it.
I looked at the Global Gazzetteer, at http://www.fallingrain.com/world/
and found the one way north, but as you say, not one along that fjord.
In what context is this name given? Farm name, parish, something else?
I don't see a farm by that name either, either in O. Rygh's farmnames
project or the censuses. Any chance of any closer location where it
might be?
