Gramps (http://gramps.sourceforge.net/) and Lifelines
(http://lifelines.sourceforge.net/) are the long-established programs.
Gramps uses a GUI and runs under X; last I knew, lifelines was command-
line based. You may also be able to be able to induce a windows-based
program to run under WINE (http://winehq.org/).
