In case it might be of use to someone, PAF now runs quite
well on Linux using Wine 0.9.29. For details, see the
following web page:

As has been discussed, Gramps is a very good genealogy
program for Linux, and I understand there are also other
programs. This adds to the list of programs to choose from.

Any idea if PAF 4 is working ? PAF 4 has a French version.

I'd also like to mention that Ancestral Quest 11 runs almost perfectly
on Linux under Wine 0.9.29. Installation is a little tricky but I'd be
happy to help anyone that needs it after reading the application note below.

And Gramps will exchange data with AQ and PAF. Currently I have all 3
running on Ubuntu Linux using AQ as the primary.

I don't believe it is working. Rather than suggest you try
installing it, I made separate attempts to install in French
and in English, and both attempts failed. There is an AppDB
web page for PAF 4, separate from the page for PAF 5, but
the latest test results shown are dated October 28, 2005.
It appears there has been a regression since those results
were posted.

If you want PAF 4 to (again) work under Wine, I would
suggest trying it and filing a bug report with as much
information as you can provide about what fails. After
filing the bug report, make sure to vote for it. Post back
here and/or email me, and I'll vote for it, too.
