Saving a web page that won`t
Hello guys , Is there a ' work around ' for those few webpages that will
not ' save ' to your computer ? , As in getting a message after the
download / save has started saying
" this page could not be saved to that location "
I spent most of today searching for stuff to further my research in the
1400s in England , I found a page that has what I want , But can not save
it in any useable form
please and thanks , Phil ,

Re: Saving a web page that won`t
You could always try taking a screen shot - Alt-PrintScr. You can open
them in Paint and save as jpg etc. Not the most technical solution but it
works when all else fails!

The owner of the page could very well have a java script running on the
page preventing the saving of anything on the page to a viewer's
computer. Turn off java in your browser and try again. If your browser
won't run java scripts the site can't stop the download.

Try CTRL-A to select the whole page, CTRL-C to copy what you've selected,
and then open up your word processor and pasting the copy into it there and
then save it.
Another approach is to open your genealogy program, enter a fact for a given
individual, and then pasting the copy into your program's source citation
screen(s). You can do this with RootsMagic when you create a new source.
Once done, it's saved in your program and you can always call it up later
for future citations.

This is a good approach ONLY if what he wants is all on that screen. If, as
I suspect, there's more materal that he has to scroll down for, then this is
not so good.

Try sending the page to yourself via e-mail, and then try printing and
saving. I've done this several times in the past with some success.
Good luck !

Re: Saving a web page that won`t
John,
Actually, if you use Mozilla Firefox as a browser and have the "Screen
Grab!" extensions installed (as I do), you can grab multi-screen
screenshots of webpages and save them as a graphic file.
Also, I believe that the problem of the link he gives is that it is
"http://www.answers.com/counties%20england" instead of
"http://www.answers.com/counties/england". The page name is "england",
but if he is trying to save it as "counties%20england", his OS will not
let him save it properly with a forward slash ("%20") in the file name.

hello group, you may want to try this method......
firstly open page that Phil as shown.
Right click on mouse with curser on page.
Menu.. item Click on "view source".
the information will be viewed in notepad.
save contents to a known dir.
eg: counties%20england[1].txt
It will look something like this....

This is a much better example and you can pay for a full licence by posting
the designer a postcard.

Rules for use:
1.. Anybody may print out up to THREE copies of this map for their
personal use. This shall be deemed "Fair Use", and no obligation shall be
due.
2.. Anybody wishing to print out FOUR OR MORE copies of this map, or to
distribute copies to other people, is required to send a picture postcard of
their locality, with their details (including email address) on the back,
to:
Riley H Williams
15 Woodfield
Clayton Brook
Lancashire PR5 8EB
England
3.. Receipt of the postcard shall be deemed full payment for as many
copies of the map as may be desired, and also for copies of any future
versions of the map in question. All postcards received that contain an
email address will be acknowledged within 7 days. Postcards without an email
address will not be acknowledged.
4.. Anybody wishing to tweak this map for any reason shall send a copy of
the tweaked map to me together with details of all tweaks made. This is
simply so that I can keep track of any bugfixes therein.

You could always try taking a screen shot - Alt-PrintScr. You can open
them in Paint and save as jpg etc. Not the most technical solution but
it works when all else fails!

Hello guys , Is there a ' work around ' for those few webpages
that will
not ' save ' to your computer ? , As in getting a message after the
download / save has started saying
" this page could not be saved to that location "
I spent most of today searching for stuff to further my research in
the
1400s in England , I found a page that has what I want , But can not
save
it in any useable form
please and thanks , Phil ,
please give us the URL so we can play with it
possibly a different browser or view source might do it
it is on your machine in the cache anyway
