FTM - Odd behaviour of Web Search

Sorry about the length of this. But thought it preferable to start
with a fullish description rather than possibly have to keep filling
in gaps later.

I have FTM 2006, and my default browser is Firefox 1.07. I'm getting
some strange behaviour when I select an individual in FTM and then use
the Web Search Resources button. What's more, it seems inconsistent.

Q1: This morning when the search started, I got this message in
Firefox. Note that it appears to come from MSIE - which is not
running!

---------
Internet Explorer

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 44
Char: 4
Error: Object required
Code: 0
URL: file://C:\DOCUME~1\TERRYP~1\LOCALS~1
\Temp\FTW\match.htc

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
Yes No
---------

BTW, I got a similar error yesterday, but not right on this initial
step. It occurred when trying to Save a search a bit later.

Q2: Should the results be displayed in FTM or in my browser?

Directly after closing that error message (whether I clicked Yes or No
made no difference), the 1st 50 results appeared in FTM. But when I
used the feature yesterday (my first time) , I seem to recall they
were in Firefox.

Q3: Does FTM use 1837online.com to get the initial results?

The reason I ask is that in FF, under a new tab, I see this error
message, which I assume is related: "Error 500: Server caught
unhandled exception from servlet [Pre84SearchCountServlet]: null" The
URL is http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/Pre ... untServlet

But I see that FTM uses Ancestry.com for the detailed record that
appears after clicking 'View online' for a particular result.

Q4: What criteria are used for the search?

I selected 'Alice Ratchus' from my Pinnell tree and did the above
search. The only other information in FTM for her was a birth year
'Abt. 1946'. The original results were displayed and to reduce them I
used Edit Criteria, choosing 'Birth,Marriage & Death'. That gave me
'236 matching records'.

The first few are:

SEARCH RESULTS FOR ALICE RATCHUS
Alice Pinnell Birth 12 Nov 1913
Winifred Alice Pinnell Birth 27 Oct 1907
Alice PINNELL Birth Sep 1845
Alice Pinnell Death Jun 1866
..
..
Albert Pinnell Birth 14 Aug 1914
Alexander Pinnell Birth 13 Dec 1922
etc, etc

Yet not one is for Alice Ratchus! And only 4 (on the last page) have a
Ratchus surname. It *looks* like the search is of the form [Pinnell OR
Ratchus]. In which case it surely should not be titled as it is?

Q5: How would other FTM users have gone about this search please? The
objective is to start my Ratchus file, beginning with my mother Alice,
who died in about 1946, when I was 4 or 5, leaving my father, Edward
Geoffrey Pinnell (born 12 Feb 1920).

MS IE is a WInXP tool kit which other programss use
even though they have different "skins"

always ignore that nmessage type unless you own the webpage

Try using MS Internet Explorer or another browser and see if it works any
better. I've had problems with Firefox and FTM2005/2006.
