FTM 2006/Chart Companion - Obscure puzzle

After installing FTM 2006 (over the top of FTM 6, all OK), I installed
the separate 'bonus' program, Chart Companion. I took the option to
let it scan my PC for FTW files. Apart from the single file I've made
so far, Pinnell.FTW, it found a few others that didn't exist! These
were in 'M:\RECYCLER\....'

But I no longer have a partition labeled M. I did very briefly have
one, for a few minutes, when I was doing some work to re-label
partitions after installing a new HD recently, but it definitely
doesn't exist any more. Neither Explorer nor XP Disk Mgmt show such a
partition or drive.

I won't be losing any sleep about it, but I'd be interested if anyone
has any suggestions how such a quirk could arise please?

That would have happened if you had those .ftw files on the partition
and deleted them and then forgot to Empty the Recycle Bin. There's
probably info in the Windows registry and a system file sitting
somewhere with that info in it. The tools you mention don't display that
because the partition doesn't exist, but FTM did look a bit harder
without checking to see if the files had been deleted or even really
existed.

Thanks Bob, that makes sense.
