PAF help please - Selecting individual families for a gedcom

Legg inn av Maloney Empire » 12 sep 2005 11:36:21

Hi all,

Is there anyone on here who can advise how I go about selecting a certain
branch of my familyhistory file to send to another person. I don't want to
send other great branches, some are fairly large and there is no need for
them to have the information.

Regards,

Which prog are you using? In FTM, you set up an on-screen tree showing only

the branch you want to export, and then use the "export individuals on tree"
command.

Thanks Lesley, I have three programs, PAF (my main program), Legacy and
TM - I use all three.

FTM is the one I need to use - didn't know that when I posted, so thank
heaps.

Would still like to know about PAF and Legacy - will do a lot more
practicing and learning.

With PAF you can export a gedcom selecting the "All Ancestral Related"
filter selected. and then using the "Combine filters using" option add
descendants, individual, etc as desired.

I prefer Legacy for this type of export. With it I use the tag feature.
Lets say I wanted to export to gedcom all my fathers family but not my
mothers. After clearing all tags (or selecting an new tag number) I select
my father and then tag either the direct line Ancestors or Entire Ancestor
Line. I then tag all of his descendants if desired. At that point you can
untag any individuals as you desire. One way is to go through the name list
and select and edit, deleting the tag, of any individuals you do not want to
have, or add tags to those you may want to include, in the gedcom. Then
export the gedcom using only the tagged individuals.
