Releatives in US/Canada

Legg inn av etos » 24 okt 2004 21:24:36

I have three problems I can't get any furter with.

Problem 1:

I found out some time ago that my Great Grandfather, Johan Edvard (Karlsen)
Norbek (or Norbeck) born 18.01.1884 died in Englehart, North Ontario,
Canada. He left Norway 16.03.1907 heading for Ottawa. He died prox 1909 in
Englehart. My Grandmother told me that the state of Canada consfiscated all
his belonging. I'm trying to find out what really happened to him. When did
he die and where is he buried. I would really appreciate if I could get som
help.

Problem 2:

Johan Edvard Norbeks brother, Jens Kristian (Karlsen) Norbek left Norway
(Oslo) 11.05.1906 heading for Minnesota. Nobody really knows what happened
to him. I need som help getting further.

Problem 3:

Johan Edwards brother, Peder Olsen (Lyng) born 15.03.1877 emigrated to USA
and died there in 1952. He was married to Lovisa and had one son, Ernest
Olsen. I found out that Ernest Olsen lived in 6 Silver Street, Worcester,
Massachusets in the fifities/sixties. I was wondering whether Ernest had any
descendants and would also like to know a little more about Peder Olsen's
movements in the US.

A little correction, but a very important one for all
Canadians - we are not (yet) a State of the USA. :-)

Canada is a country made up of Provinces and Territories.

My my! Touchy aren't we?<vbg>

Since these newsgroups are international in scope, there are many
posters who do not have English as their native tongue. In the poster's
native tongue the word means and the intent was to refer to the
*government* of Canada. I think you'll find that it is a secodary
definition in English also. :-)

Hello

I found out some time ago that my Great Grandfather,

in
Englehart, North Ontario, Canada.

Englehart, is in Evanturel Township, Timiskaming District.
You need to know this to find more details on him

He left Norway 16.03.1907
heading for Ottawa. He died prox 1909 in Englehart.

Then you can find him in the Ontario Death Registrations.
They are open to the public for the year you need.

See http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/vs.shtml for
details on how to get the INDEX to Vital Stats deaths
1909, and how to then order the microfilm with full details
of the death.

all his belonging. I'm trying to find out what really
happened to him. When did he die and where is he buried.

You can find out where he died, what he died of, who the
informant was, who the attending doctor was, and more, by
getting his death registration following the steps I gave
you above. These records have been filmed and are available
from local Family History Centres, Ontario Archives, and
InterLibraryLoan. You cannot request a lookup in them and
you cannot request the info from Government agencies for
the year you want. You must access them yourself or hire a
researcher to do it for you.

You may find more info in a local newspaper. See Ontario
Genealogy at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/ and
then choose NEWSPAPERS from the main menu.

Have you checked OCFA? (Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid). It
is a searchable database of burials for Ontario and is
found at http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/

Good luck,

Lorine
