Where is "here"? There's no point in suggesting someone in one part of the

Also, Have you looked at the passanger lists on Cyndi's List?

If you are
looking for USA passenger lists, you're in luck.
Most ports of arrival are indexed for the time period you want so
this will make your job easier. You can order films in to a
nearby Family History Centre, or have NARA do the job (once
you have precise details)
NY isn't indexed for this time period BUT if you think NY
is the port of arrival you can use the free access (til
Oct. 29) to search for ancestors in New York Passenger
Lists, 1851-1891 at
http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ancestry/free.shtml
If you want to order those indexed lists for other ports of
arrival, you can get a list of film numbers (NARA & FHC) at
http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/nar ... port.shtml
Scroll down to the state you want and click on the link,
then find the film # you need
The staff of the National Archives will undertake a search
of the original records for a fee
You can also try Naturalization Records.
The 1900, 1910 ,1920 and 1930 census identify citizenship
status, with notations showing the individual was an
Alien,
or had started the Naturalization process or had his final
papers. The year of immigration is also shown. 1920 also
nicely provides a year of naturalization.
You can read more about the value of census records in
your
search for an immigrant ancestor at
http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/census.shtml
There are great clues in the 1870 census too!
If your ancestor has a check mark in the column "Male
Citizens of the
United States of twenty-one years of age and upwards" you
have a clue that
naturalization took place before 1870

say you narrowed the dates down, but how did you do this?
If it was census records, be careful. The year of
immigration and naturalization are the most MISremembered
years of alll. So always add a year or two on either side.
Why not give the list the names and some details (dates of
birth would help) that you are looking for? Many of us love
a good puzzle and would probably help.
Next, if you have truly searched every single list to every
single port of arrival to the USA (sorry to sound sceptical
but that is one HUGE task!) in that time period, then you
may be looking at Canadian arrivals. Many immigrants to the
USA came through Canada because it was so much cheaper
Unfortunately the records for Canada before 1925 are not
indexed. To find a passenger you will need to know an exact
date of arrival.
There is no easy way to search Canadian arrival records
for this unindexed period other than reading microfilm
The National Archives of Canada (NAC) holds immigration
records from 1865 to 1935.
Ships are on the reel, in order of arrival. You can find
the details at this URL
http://www.archives.ca/02/020202_e.html
If you want to order filmed passenger lists (remember they
aren't indexed!), a list of NAC microfilm numbers for
passenger lists to Canada 1865-1922 can be found at
http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/fil ... 1865.shtml
If you want to try your luck searching transcribed ships
passenger lists online, passenger lists for Ships to
Canada after 1865 are freely available at
http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tocanp05.shtml
You can also try TheShipsList.com at
http://www.theshipslist.com/ They have been indexing
arrivals from Newspapers and have many passenger lists
online
The Ontario Archives has just put a new database online -
an index to the assisted immigration registers created by
the Toronto Emigrant Office between 1865 and 1883.
The registers are a chronological listing of those new
immigrants who were assisted by the government to travel
to many different destinations across southern Ontario.
Over 29,000 entries have been transcribed from the
registers.
