US Navy Bases in Connecticut c. 1905

Wife's ancestor enlisted in the Navy in Connecticut c.1905. Where might he
have done so - assuming it was a permanent US Navy installation? We've
thought of New London, New Haven, Groton - but where else?

Thanks.

It is unlikely he went to a Navy installation. Enlistments usually began at
a recruiting office. The individual then goes to a central processing
office for a physical and signing of appropriate enlistment papers. Again,
not necessarily at a Navy Installation. I cannot remember the exact name of
the installation I went to. I signed up in Rockford, IL and subsequently
went to the main processing unit in Chicago. I believe it was a
central/regional recruiting office for all services. Depending on his
date of enlistment he may have went to "boot camp" in Great Lakes, Illinois
which was established on July 1, 1905.

I don't know what you are looking for but you can probably obtain his
service record from the Navy. Regretfully, I don't have the address where
you can obtain this data. Perhaps you can do a Google search or someone who
has obtained records can assist you.

Recruitment offices would be in one of the major cities which today are

Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, Groton/New London, Danbury, Hartford. Most
Navy and Coast Guard activities are in the Groton/New London area.
