notations on 1900 census

Legg inn av russ » 11 okt 2004 18:13:02

I am sure this question has been asked and answered many times before,
but I cannot find it in any database searches. Perhaps I am using the
wrong keywords.

Anyways, my question is in regards to notations on the census next to my
relative's name and relationship to HOH, they appear to be done by a
different person other than the enumerator. Next to his name there is a
notation of 67-13 which is underlined and below it is Pt-10. Next to
Head Of HouseHold there is a notation of "8c"

Can anyone direct me to a resource that explains these notations. My
guess is that they may have to do with naturalization, but I am not
sure, nor can I decipher them.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the 67-13 but the 8c means there are 8 children in the
household. Other notations I've seen by the head of household include Rn and
Bn where R is relative, B is boarder and n the number of relatives or
boarders. The 10 in Pt-10 is the total number living in the household. I
think it may actually say Pf. I've also seen Bl when it's a boarding house
followed by the total number of people living there.
