One of my pet peeves is when people reply to a post without checking to see

Herman Viaene had already posted this same answer a couple of hours

My apologies!

Re: California Obit lookup - please
Thank you one and all but I don't see the full obit. This guy was my
stepmother's (first?) husband. I'm not a blood relative but no one ever
explained how he came into the picture
I know about Camilla Horn, his possible birth name., "Wilfred Douthitt", and
his movies. I found someone on the Net who said he was "the mystery man of
opera" and that during one of his concerts an audience member stood up and
shouted, "That man is a spy!"
They had one child that I know of: Viola. The stepmother was British, from
Land's End, near Cornwall.
Anyone have any other ideas or sources?
Thanks,
Ephraim

Depending on your news server, you might not be able to see a reply
until several hours (or longer) have passed. I know that there have

It was all my fault in this case.
It was early and I guess I wasn't
completely awake yet (that's my excuse!
and the other post was right there
on my list to read.
I use a newsreader (Netscape) and it shows a list all of the new (unread by me)
posts in any newsgroup on my server that I display. Many times in that list of
unread messages I will see a message thread of several posts where a person has
come with an answer that has already been given. That wouldn't happen if people
read all of the other messages first before responding. I am making what I think
is the reasonable assumption that the various newsservers are somewhat
synchronized in the messages they have available.
Leaving out those cases where the timing is close and the people could have been
working concurrently and counting only the cases where there was adequate time to
have read the whole thread before responding is the situation that I'm talking
about. In my case, there was a 2 hour gap between my post and the other. Dumb &
annoying!
I'll remember to look at the headers next time to see if any party is posting
from Google.
