Help Needed - Loss of Citizenship

Legg inn av JD » 08 okt 2004 02:51:23

Got a bit of a problem going here.

Canadian Immigration law:

Prior to 1976 (? I think) there was a rule that said that a Canadian
woman marrying a foreigner could automatically lose her Canadaian
citizenship.

A) Is(was) that the case?

B) If so, did she automatically gain some other citizenship
(specifically USA in this case) or did she just become stateless?

Any ideas??

Bonsoir,

No, I have some relatives who married Italians (prior to 1976) and they have
not losted their Canadien citizenship. I think that Canadians were loosing
the Citizenship only when getting another Citizenship. But this has been
resolved.

Actually, I think this may have applied to women who were British citizens
but not born in Canada, and who married aliens prior to the first Canadian
Citizenship Act of 1947.
