Dell AIO Printer A920

Legg inn av LRESA500 » 22 sep 2004 06:34:17

I purchased a nice system from Dell a few months ago. I received this A920
printer free. It's a cheapie but prints OK. The problem is it uses up black ink
cartridges faster than my family of 4 uses a roll of toilet paper. Buying the
cartridgres from Dell and having them shipped is a pain in the ass. I believe
this printer is made by Lexmark. Will Lexmark cartridges fit this printer or
are the Dell cartridges just a little bit different.
Thanks

I suggest your check out this site to see if you can find the cartridges
cheaper. I have been satisfied with their product.

I've had very good luck with a company called "ACSI Bulk Inks",
at http://www.oddparts.com/
They sell ink in bulk (pints), with injectors to use to refill the
cartridge. Not sure if that printer will work with this sort of method,
but if it can be done properly, they'll have an ink for it. It's notable
that rather than a "one ink fits all" approach, they have different inks
for different cartridge types, which indicates they're doing at least
some engineering in all this.

I have no affiliation with them other than buying a few pints of ink from
them every few years. Used to be you could ask for a "Joke of the day list"
discount, not sure if that still applies.

My daughter just got a 'free 720' from Dell- same cartridges.
When I went to look for replacement cartridges I saw why Dell is so
eager to give these printers away. $53 for a set of cartridges hurts!

Everything I could find in extensive web/usenet searches says that
Dell uses a *modified* Lexmark cartridge. The Lexmarks won't fit in
the printer. [that doesn't preclude refilling them, though-- that
could stretch your $ a little]

If you find a supplier cheaper than Dell, please post it. [I have my
first set of replacement cartridges sitting on my desk. I'll be
taking some digi-pics for my ink guy at netwares.com & hopefully he'll
have a good idea. Last week when I emailed him he wasn't familiar
with the cartridges.]
