I saw 2 hits on Ancestry that might be the one you're talking about as being
in the right time frame.

The first one is probably too old to be your man. The second looked like he
was probably a widower. No wife, but it looked like he had a daughter (or a
15 year old wife, I guess). I couldn't connect either with an Ellen Davis.
It's tough to tell what might be a good hit without an age or a possible
place of birth. I got a bunch of hits on Ancestry on the name Henry
Stoneham, but how do you tell which might be valid? Ancestry has a bunch of
passenger records for folks coming to America but I didn't see any for folks
leaving America for Australia. I think Ancestry is a good resource for those
with a lot of family history in America, but it would be a waste of money
for trying to find one ancestor who *may be* from America.

Hi,
We are trying to work out where Henry Stoneham came from. There is very
little on
him. We have William Stoneham (son) of Henry Stoneham and Ellen Adams.
William Stoneham was born 26/5/1863 -Sydney. No records of death or
marrage certificates of both parents.
There is a family rumour they came from the USA?
What is that ancestory.com WWW site like? A search showed they had one
Henry Stoneham in
the correct time period. Is the ancestory WWW site trustworthy? and worth
subscribing too?
My lead came from Michelle who suggested I ask you. - Thank you in
advance.
Ask Tara (on this group) to have a look for the info, located on Ancestry
and see if she can check it out. I have used her to find alot of info for
me, on my US relatives. She is a great lady and extremely helpful.
