Hi Michael,

Don't like to disappoint you but the U. S. Census is released 72 years after
it is taken. Consequently, the 1940 census will not be released for public
consumption until 2012. Hope you can wait that long for a reply to your
query.

REALLY? Wow, learn something new every day! I wonder why, although

there's probably some privacy issue thing at work I'm sure. Ok, thanks
anyway! :-)

My guess would be that 72 years is the est. life span of the youngest
person on that census.
How close am I? Did I win anything? <smile>

Why: Because in 1940, the public who answered the census questions were
promised that the data would not be made public for 72 years.

Why were they promised that: because the census contains financial
information which no one then (or now) wishes to have known to everyone
in the county and without a promise of confidentiality, no one would
answer the questions.

Notice that the promise was specifically for no less than 72 years of
confidentiality. There is *nothing* in the Act or the documentation
that requires confidentiality to end in 72 years; the requirement is
that it may not end sooner.

Ok, what was he confidentially time for the other census'? Were they
met precisely, or did they get held longer? Just trying to get a feel
for the pattern :-)
