REQ 1930 Census - San Francisco
Hi, I am looking for my maternal grandfather. He would definitely be
in San Francisco by 1930 and perhaps he was there by 1920. I don't
have their first names.
Name: Lucev
Born: Prvic Luka, Dalmatia, Croatia
Age: 30's most likely but not certain
Wife: Pluth or Plut? may have been dead by 1930
Born: Croatia or Slovenia
Place: San Francisco, San Francisco, California
2 Daughters: Mary would have been 6 years old
Jen (short for Jennifer?) would have been younger.
both daughters were born in San Francisco.
Thanks so much,
Katie

I couldn't find anything in 1920 or 1930. Here's someone with that surname
from Prvic Luka in the Ellis Island database:
Lucev, Ante M 17y S Austrian, Dalmatian Prvic Luka, Austria
He arrived in 1912. I've looked and can't find him in the 1920 or 1930
census either.

Thanks, Doug I really appreciate your searching! I have the Ellis
Island info too. I am not sure this is my Lucev, there were 3
possibilities who came around 1910 (the year according to family
stories). I wanted to find him in the SF census since family stories
claim my Lucev met his wife, married and lived out the rest of his
life there. The home he lived in in SF is still in the family, though
it was moved from its original site when his children were still at
home. The Ellis Island info says Ante Lucev went to New York first,
which is possible, but I know my Grandmother was born in 1924 in San
Francisco and she lived her whole life in the house she was born in.

I found a 1933 San Francisco telephone book online. Here's the only Lucev
listing from it:

After reading the telephone book information from Doug I did a wildcard
search on John Luc* and I believe I have found your family. I am sending
the 1930 census image for your review.

Thanks so much for finding this! Mike verified that this John is
indeed my Lucev by finding and sending along the 1930 census where
they were listed as Lucek! (Sorry, babbling out of excitement, you can
read the thread yourself. I was excited to see the address as it was
very likely to be correct. It is the address before the house was
moved, which I did not have before.
Thanks a million!
