1890 Veterans Census or 1900 Census-VOGT or MAYER

Legg inn av Prospector » 20 aug 2004 21:08:19

Looking for any info on my great-grandfather who was in 4th Maryland
Infantry as a drummer from 1862-1865. His name was John Vogt but
enlisted under the name "John Mayer". Who knows why...? Did he apply
for pension? Did those who fought under aliases ever apply?

He appears in the 1880 census in Laurel, Maryland (Prince Georges
County), but then we lose track of him. His son, Jesse, my grandfather
turns up in Baltimore around 1915.

Thanks.

Tara

I have the 1900 census for John Vogt and family and the 1910 census for
Jesse and his mother. Do you want the images? If so, provide an email
address.
