how do I change my replies to automatically show up AFTER th

Legg inn av Ennc » 18 aug 2004 17:20:10

Hadn't realized I should be posting my replies after the previous message
since it seemed easier to me to view them at the top. I thought I
remembered, in the past, seeing a setting to change it to automatically put
my replies in such and such a place. But now I can't find it. I have OE 6.
Anybody know where to change it?
Thanks,
Nancy

OE (any version) does not include that feature. There is third party
software that can help with this, but I do not have experience with any of
them and cannot make a recomendation. (But I am using OE 6).

Hi Nancy,
In my OE it gives me the choice under Edit, under Preferences and Compose. I
prefer the answer showing up at the beginning of the reply.

This seems to be the case. I have looked at all the options, etc. Thing
is, I thought I had seen it in the past. Maybe when I had Netscape.
Thanks,

It is different then. I don't have a Mac. Thank you for your input anyway.
Nice to know folks are trying to help.

I don't know of any mail reading software that has such a feature.

What it should be able to do is to let you start a rep,ly with the original
message shown as "quited" - that is, with the greater than character ">" at
the beginning of every line, with the cursor at the top.

You then go down through the message, deleting bits you are NOT replying to
and that are not needed to make sense of other bits, and answering each point
as it is mentioned -- usually paragraph by paragraph.

When you get to the bottom of the bits you are replying to, you would usually
delete anything that remains below.

If the software were to put the cursir at the bottom of ther quoted buts from
the orignal mesage, you would be tempted not to delete the bits you aren't
replying to.

Hi,

For OE6 users, you can go to:

http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/outlook-quotefix/

and download QuoteFix for free (although they do ask for donations). That
should take care of your problem.

I used the link and read about it. Since it's a Beta I think I'll wait.
I've had more problems trying to download something to "improve" things that
I am shell shocked.

If all this fuss is just about top-posting vs bottom-posting, isn't that

what cursors are for?

Well, apparently we can't even get people to _snip_ excess quoting it seems.

No worries - I was going to make a comment on trying to teach people to
snip or quote properly while hitting "send" 4 times, but I am most
decidedly completely avoiding even commenting on it.
