Thanks in advance

I like it. There's a particular flexibility to the search engine that
brings me hits that I can't get anywhere else, such as the WWI draft
registration records, or the various city directories. And sometimes the
images are cleaner than the ones at genealogy.com.

However I've found that I have to use both. Images that aren't readable
at ancestry can be found at genealogy by using the roll and page index.

Also, the 1900 census at ancestry isn't entirely indexed (looks like
they're working on it though), while genealogy has its 1900 indexed on
heads of household. ancestry doesn't have images for the 1910 census but
genealogy does. I'm not sure why the differences---they're owned by the
same company, aren't they?

I'm fortunate that my place of business furnishes a free ancestry.com
account, so all I had to pay for was genealogy.com.

To me, it's a question of having enough tools to adequately search. If I
had only ancestry I'd still be lacking some essential search capacity.

The LDS site, http://www.familysearch.org/, has also been very helpful,
and it's free as well.

I like ancestry.com for the same reasons expressed by Saki. However,
Ancestry does have both an index and images for the 1910 census. You can
find the images by going to the 1910 census then scrolling down to the end
of the first paragraph under search then click on "Click here to browse
images."

I am surprised your place of business doesn't have HeritageQuest as well
considering your email address. I suggest you check with your local library
to determine if they have a link to HeritageQuest which provides access to
all census images. Many are indexed on head of household. However, their
search engine is limited and one must search on various name spellings since
there is no soundex. My library provides free access with the use of my
library card. Also, I have done a Google search on HeritageQuest and found
some library sites which provide access without need for a library card or
password.
