Another Brother's Keeper question

Legg inn av Jack » 12. februar 2008 kl. 15.02

I started my research using BK 5.2 and then acquired BK 6.1. In the
process of converting from 5.2 to 6.1 I got confused and ended up with
both the 5.2 and 6.1 data in the same file. Both seem to work ok but
I am wondering if this is a good thing or will I have problems over
time.

Another question. The pictures I use are located in the My Pictures
folder and the Text files are located under My Documents. I noticed
that when I set up BK 6.1 and converted my data from 5.2, it set up a
Text and Picture folder under the data file folder. There is nothing
in these two folders and I am wondering why they were set up by the
program. Is this just a suggestion to put the Text and Picture files
under these folders?

It sounds to me like they changed the way, and location, pics and text are
stored. Try copying the files to the new folder...

If the information is in one file then it is presumably in the format

used by the later version otherwise you would be getting error
messages.

The "My Pictures" and "My Documents" are standard file-buckets used by

Windoze. BK sets up a default directory hierarchy which keeps all
associated files together and tends to avoid BK files getting tangled
with the general dross in the above Windoze directories; it also makes
it easier to copy, back up or transfer the BK file set as doing so
with the picture and text files outwith the BK directory tree is
likely to miss any such files.

I agree, but trying to use the 6.1 data with the 5.2 program will probably
lead to data loss for the items that 6.1 added that are unsupported in 5.2.

He didn't move the files to the new directories....

No one said he did but in answer to his question I pointed out that

the information is a bit more manageable if the appropriate BK
sub-directories are used rather than mixing the information with
unrelated files in the general "buckets" of files.

Jack,

You can't have the same "file" for BK 5 & 6, you can have the same data
in two different sets of files. BK5 file names end in .DT5 and BK6 end
in .DT6.

Regarding pictures, go to a person with a picture and see where its
located and if it displays.

During the conversion from BK5 to BK6 you had to select whether you
wanted to copy the pictures to a new location or leave them whether BK5
said they were.
