Joseph Rosario Robillard. b. 22 Dec 1894 Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts d.
18 Oct. 1945 Bronx, Bronx, New York.

Joseph Rosario Robillard was the son of Joseph Arthur Robillard and
Philomene Foucher. He was brother to Joseph Heria, Fabiola, Anita and
Antonio. He was also the husband of Noella Thurber(Henry, Virginia ?). Any
children that Rosario and Noella may have had are unknown to me.

Joseph Rosario Robillard died in a VA hospital in the Bronx, NY. I have his
death certificate information. It states that he was a resident of North
Grosvenordale CT at the time of his death and also a loom fixer.

In the Repertory of Burials of St. Joseph Catholic Church (1872-1990), North
Grosvenordale, Connecticut, Pg. 510. it states he was buried in the St
Joseph Cemetery in North Grosvenordale on 23 Oct 1945.

Joseph Rosario had many relatives in the North Grosvenordale CT area as well
as in Lowell, MA. In fact, in 1946 his remains were moved to St. Joseph
Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA. Section c, lot 12.

I have searched the Lowell Sun archives for his obit in and around the 18th
of October 1945 but I came up empty handed. I have also been searching for a
microfilmed archive of newspapers that may have been popular and published
in 1945 in the area of North Grosvenordale CT but I have not been able to
find any such archive.

Any suggestions or help leading to the publication of Joseph Rosario's
obituary would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks : )

Good Afternoon, Michelle...

Two suggestions -- if you know the funeral home that handled his
arrangements,
they would more than likely have a copy of any obituary and identify the
newspaper it was printed in. Don't be surprised if there is no obituary,
but,
perhaps a death notice. I've found many death notices, but, very few
obituaries. Most families would not pay for an obituary, whereas a death
notice was usually published free. The cemetery where he is/was buried
may also be able to identify the funeral home that handled the arrangements.
It is much easier to try to find the newspaper from the funeral home than
try to guess which paper it may have appeared in.

Both the funeral home and cemetery should have a significant amount of
information about attendees, other family members buried, ownership
etc. Don't be afraid to ask...some will be very helpful and some cite some
issue of privacy.

Good Luck...Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your suggestions. They are very much appreciated.
Unfortunately, I do not know which funeral home took care of his
arrangements in North Grosvenordale, CT. But, I have noticed, through my
research, a certain funeral home that seems to have been preferred by the
French Canadians of that area, during that time. It may be worth it for me
to contact them.

The original document may well have included additional information that the
transcriber didn't think was important. This information typically includes
the name of the funeral home and the name of the person who provided the
information for the death certificate. The name of the informant often
gives a clue as to how accurate the family information might be. It might
be worth requesting an actual photocopy of the certificate.

Consider contacting the Windsor County government offices to find a
number for the probate court or surrogate court register of wills to
determine if the man had a last will and testament that was probated
at the county courthouse. If he did, there will be a page in the file
showing names and addresses of heirs/beneficiaries and you can order a
copy of that by mail. Also think about trying to find information
about Noella's date of death and place of death so you could search
for HER obituary notice to see if there is any mention of children
there.

I only have information that was transcribed from his birth
certificate.
Not the actual birth certificate. A kind person over at the rootsweb
Bronx board found the information for me. The information I was given
did
not include the name of a funeral home. Please see below.

Death Certificate #10038:
Joseph Rosario Robillard, born Dec 22 1894 in Lowell, MA
res. Grosvenor Dale, Windham Co., CT; occ. loom fixer
Died at Veterans Administration Hospital, The Bronx, Oct. 18, 1945.
He served in WW1.
Father= Arthur, born Canada
Mother= Philomena Foucher, born Canada.
Wife= Noella
SS# 038-07-4123
cause of death= tumor of urinary bladder, recurrent, with hypertrophy
of
prostate.
Buried in Putnam, CT.

The original document may well have included additional information that
the transcriber didn't think was important. This information typically
includes the name of the funeral home and the name of the person who
provided the information for the death certificate. The name of the
informant often gives a clue as to how accurate the family information
might be. It might be worth requesting an actual photocopy of the
certificate.

Bruce

That's a good idea Bruce, I have it on my list of things to do.

Also think about trying to find information
about Noella's date of death and place of death so you could search
for HER obituary notice to see if there is any mention of children
there.

GENEALOGICAL RESEARCHER

Thanks, for the suggestion. The county is Windham. I haven't searched for
Noella's obit yet. I have Aug 1974 as an approximate time frame. After the
death of her husband, Joseph Rosario Robillard, she remarried a Patrick A
Bernier. But upon her death she was buried with her 1st husband Joseph
Rosario.
