Harp on grave marker
I was curious if anyone knew of the meaning of this grave marker symbol ?
http://thumb4.webshots.net/t/69/169/1/9 ... AXV_th.jpg
Looks like a decorative harp and 13 leaf olive branch of peace, but was
curious if this was a unique harp or just a generic one. I searched a few
symbol websites and grave marker symbol websites also, but did not find
this particular harp listed or I missed it while scrolling perhaps.
thanks for any comments,
Jonathan

The Harp of David. Although the harp is more stylized that one would
normally see, the harp within the olive branches is a very old symbol
probably predating Solomon. It symbolizes peace and praises unto God.

In 1994 I was in the Seattle, Washington area and decided to visit
the grave of Jimi Hendrix in Renton. As I was approaching the
grave I noticed several people lying around, and milling about.
As I got closer I could detect that unmistakable aroma of
grass (marijuana) wafting in the air. If any more of Jimi's fans
had been there that evening , and had been "in character"
the grave would have been shrouded in a "purple haze."
I wanted to take some pictures of the gravesite, but was
too timid to ask all these people to move. Suddenly
a guy with shoulder length blond hair, and a half
emptied bottle of Jim Beam asked "hey, you wanna
take a picture?" The others joined in and said "come
take your picture, dude." They all rolled over and away
from the grave in unison. Apparently a lot of camera
toting tourists visit the site all the time. They knew the
routine when "outsiders" approached.
I hurriedly took about five pictures. I wanted to
take more, but didn't. When I was finished, the
blond headed guy with the Jim Beam said,
"look at it." Apparently I didn't answer fast enough for
him so he repeated "look at it, man. LOOK."
There was Jimi's grave plate, and it had the
usual; date of birth----date of death. Next to his
grave was a plate that said "Grandmother."
Next to that was a plate for Jimi Hendrix senior,
it had only the birth date; he was still alive at
the time (July 1994).
Then I noticed that on Jimi's there was a
guitar symbol. I just took it as simply a nice touch.
It was not unusual for noted musicians to
have some musical symbol, or musical instrument
inscribed on their gravestone, or plate. That's
the way they do it sometimes. In many cases there
are no meanings other than letting the world know that
the deceased was a musician in life. Sometimes, I
suppose, if a funeral home has some pretty
good salesmen they can sell to the grieved family
some heavenly or celestial harps, just because
they can, and make more money. In other cases
there could be all sorts of hidden meanings.
Anyway, like I said, I just took Jimi's guitar
symbol as something the family threw in telling
us what we already knew---he was a guitar player.
Thoughtful to fans I guess---- so it would seem.
Well, this guy slurs to me, "well....wha'd ya
see?" Half drunk, half irritated in me he began
screaming...."DON'CHA SEE IT,
DON'CHA SEE IT?" I told him, "yeah man, I
see his guitar." He asks "Well....well, what's wrong
with it?" I said to him that I didn't notice anything
unusual. He said "YOU DON'T SEE SHIT MAN.
That AIN'T his guitar! THAT guitar is right-handed,
Jimi was a f.....ing LEFTY, DUDE!!
I still get a laugh about that one. What I considered
a generic, benign, innocuous, cutesy musical symbol,
others took the symbol with such profound
seriousness-----even under various influences!
I was going to visit Bruce Lee's grave in another
part of town, but decided I could get my bones
broken if I said the wrong thing, or wasn't very
attentive to detail :>)

With a name like that, you have a good chance that he (or an ancestor) was
