Has anyone used RootsMagic, and if so, what do you think of it? I am
still using FTM 9 and from what I'm reading, the new version isn't
getting very good reviews. since I may need to upgrade soon I am
starting to look at other programs.

You can download a demo and try it out. At least the program writer (Bruce
Buzbee) maintains contact through the Rootsweb mailing list and listens to
the users.

You can always use Legacy the SE version is free to download and use,
you pay for the deluxe version.
At the end of the day it is your choice to make as to what program
suites your style of recording information and what fits your budget and
is the best for you in that range of products.
The basics are all similar in any genealogy program it is the added
features that make the difference, plus how deep your pocket is.

I've been using it for about three years and generally like it. I
especially like how it easy it is to cite sources (it has an auto function
to assist you) and the ease of including pictures and sound clips.
The current version does an automatic backup if you allow it to, which
minimizes losing data.

I think that I will take your advice and download the demo. How do the
reports compare to FTM?
Re: RootsMagic
I have ised RootsMagic for several year and used its predecessor, Family
Origins, before that. It seems to be fairly powerful, allowing you to do or
document everything. yet it is pretty simple to use. I chose it because I
did not want FTM and all of the stuff that comes with it that they encourage
you to buy.
