I was curious what the check marks are in the Color Race column are for ?

I was told, back in the 1980s, that that too was an artifact
of statistical operations. So far I've not found anything
that indicates differently.

[FTR: my specific question was, since once a few names on
this enumerator's pages had a tic-mark, was he by ANY chance
trying to indicate that the person so-marked was Jewish? {I
was pretty desperate for a clue on that family.} The
response indicated that none of the various doodles,
tic-marks, slashes, or numbering had any useful meaning to
the reader, that all were something done by this person or
that during the statistics-gathering phases and generally
meant "ok, I finished that one." B'lieve I've still got
that letter somewhere around. (g) ]
