I have a 2nd cousin who will be purchasing FTM 16 which is what I use.
How can I extract the portion of the file she would be needing without
sending the whole file?
My file is m/l 8,000 persons but only 300 or so are pertinent to her line.
I know there must be a way to do it, including "everything" like notes,
source tags, etc. but I need some help on how to do it. I can't find
anything in the FTM help section or else I don't know how to look it up.

Re: Family Tree Maker 16 question on exporting
On the menubar,
Mouseclick: File;
Mouseclick: Export File;
Mouseclick: Selected Individuals;
Select a name from the left pane...
choose if you want to export just that person, just the ancestors of
person, or just the descendants of such.
Personally, I stopped using FTM 16, using the new FTM 2008 is much
better imho. It does have a learning curve to it but once you get her
going it is great.

Or alternatively set up a family tree on screen showing the branch you want
to send. Then use [export file] then [export individuals in tree].
the reason I was using the programme.

As long as you don't need the features they've removed - many of which were
the reason I was using the programme.

Re: Family Tree Maker 16 question on exporting
Thanks.
It had been a long time since I did this and could not find anything in the
help area about how to select the individuals.
I used FTM clear back to about 1994. I don't remember the version but I
think it ran under Windows 3.1
I just bought version 16 a few months ago after no upgrades since about
version 8 or 9. I have corresponded with a second cousin for many years and
she is buying FTM. I didn't know much about FTM 2008 so I told her I could
not recommend one over the other.
My goal was to export all common ancestors and descendants, so I picked our
common great grandparents and selected all their ancestors and descendants.
Often though I research a bit horizontally, for example I try to find all
siblings of an ancestor and sometimes the sibling descendants so I hope I
got everyone common in the file.
