What is O. B. L.?

Legg inn av Chris Shearer Cooper » 25 sep 2007 03:37:24

In "First Settlers of ye plantations of Piscataway and Woodbridge", by Orra
Eugene Monnette, on p. 635, after a paragraph of very important information
(regarding the Van Court family bible), he says "(O. B. L.)" which I assume
is the source; but nowhere does he explain what this source is (the
bibliography for this 7-volume set is sprinkled throughout the volumes, I've
checked them all).

The only clue I have, is elsewhere in the book he mentions "Ohioana:
Bibliographical Library", I've emailed the Ohioana Library Association
(http://www.ohioana.org) in hopes they can shed some light on this ...

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
Chris

In the research that Carille Santos did on the Runyon family, she mentions
"O. B. Leonard" - certainly could be the same source, but I still don't know
what it is!

Apparently he also wrote "Outline Sketches of the pioneer progenitors of the
Piscataway planters" (bet he was a hoot at parties, with that sense of
humor) ... I will have to track these books down, see what's in there!

Regarding #2 ... how did he write a book, published in 1890, that listed
"pioneer progenitors" up through 1916? I have the book on order for
inter-library loan, so maybe that mystery will become clear when I see the
book ...

It most likely is a typo by the library catalog I accessed
and copied and should be 1716. That is what I discovered by
doing a very quick google check on <"oliver b leonard"
+piscataway>.

You would probably have noted the dates of 1666-1716 when
you ordered the book via inter library loan.

The record on WorldCat (inter-library loan database) also lists the dates as
"1666-1916". I'm guessing somebody mistyped it once, and now that mistyping
has been copied and recopied until everybody has it that way ...
