In doing research at the Museum of the Confederacy I came across a
very detailed genealogy of Capt. Anthony Martin Branch, a Texan,
written by his wife in 1897. Is there somewhere that I can post this
info without having to join a commercial site?
Thanks.

Your own personal site, Rootsweb on the appropriate board are two
possibilities that come to mind.

I second Rootsweb. Yahoo has a lot of genealogy groups.
And if you're constantly updating, or wanting to distribute new
information, create a web log (blog). They're really easy to do,
much easier to maintain than a website.

Re: Where to post information?
Since the information is most likely owned by the Museum, you should ask
their permission before posting it anywhere. Have you asked if they
have plans for a web site of their own where they'd post information
from their library and archives? If so, then you'd only need to keep
track of the URL and then pass that along to anyone researching Capt.
Branch.

As it happens, the museum has its own web page:

Before posting any information from the museum, I'd
suggest you check with them for permission to do so,
any acceptable use restrictions, citation requirements,
etc.

Re: Where to post information?
The museum may own and control access to the documents but they don't own
any information in them. Copyright would have been owned by the wife
unless she transfered it to someone else. In any case the copyright is
long expired.
No permission is needed from anybody to publish the genealogy of Capt
Branch.
