Legg inn av L Covey » 28 aug 2007 12:14:40

Is there an index site I can go to to search for:
John M. Dripps
b. 1-Mar-1961
d. 10-Jul-1998

I am trying to determine whether or not he died in California.

Ancestry.com has the California Death Index through 1997.

Ancestry.com also has the Social Security Death Index. But its entry
for him doesn't indicate his last residence, and the SSDI doesn't
indicate place of death. All it provides is confirmation of the dates
you list, and it shows his SSN as being issued in Minnesota in 1969.

Thank you. Yes, I already checked the SSDI, but wanted to know a little
more.

Yes, thanks, but what my question is, is there a site that extends the
California Death Index beyond 1997?

I don't believe that there is any site that has an index beyond 1997.

Do you know where John was residing in 1998, if so, you could contact
the local library to see if they would search for an obituary in the
local paper.

There probably isn't as California passed a law that required that the index
be pulled offline a few years ago.

It could be Millbrae, CA or Phoenix or Mesa, AZ, so I am not sure.
Thank you for the idea. Perhaps I can use it in the future for someone.

Coincidence?? PeopleFinders shows a John M. Dripps, age 46, with
associated locations -- Mesa, AZ; Millbrae, CA; Burnsville, MN; and Phoenix,
AZ. Possible relatives are listed as Irene Dripps, Joyce E. Blaine (age
80), and Harold Edward Dripps (age 77). Do the place names and/or
"relatives" ring a bell? If so, maybe they will help you focus your search.

Yes, this is the person. I, too, saw this. Peoplefinders' ages are not
necessarily accurate. For example, if someone dies, they treat a
person's age as if they were still living.

Thank you for taking time to reply,

Thank you for this additional information.

No, I am not researching the Dripps line. As unusual as this might
sound, I locate classmates for my class reunions. In discussing this
with my dentist recently, he asked if I could locate a very good friend
of his that he has lost track of. So, I made the attempt only to have
to provide him the sad news.

I do believe I have an address and phone for the father.

Are you sure the father's middle name was Theran? I seem to find
Edward. May I ask your source?

Also, I find the spelling of the mother's maiden name to be:
Tischhauser. Not sure that is accurate.

Harold's middle name is Edward. I apologize for the bad info - I was
viewing my old records that I had with me at the time of the response
and found the correct info when I got home to view my 'real' files.

Re: the surname, I found it spelled both ways. The 1900 & 1920
Federal Census shows the name with the 2 h's. The SSDI showed the
name with 1 h. Anybody have an obit that might shed some light on
this discrepancy?
