NARA Civil War pension turnaround?

Legg inn av R. Scanlon » 24 jun 2007 17:55:32

I recently ordered my first complete Civil War pension
packet online from NARA. They're quoting, IIRC, 41-120 days
turnaround time - does anyone have recent experience with
this? Google wasn't all that helpful. Thank you.

It has been a few years since I did it but if I am not mistaken the majority
of the time(4-5 months) was spent compiling and making xerox copies of the
material. They then sent me information in the mail to verify I want it and
I had to return that to them. After I sent that verification back to them I
received the packet in under two weeks. So yes, it took almost six months
total.

I ordered two pension files in January and they took 37 and 38 days from the
time I ordered them until the were on my front porch.

I've only ordered one pension file, and it took about 40 days.

Thanks, Roland, Tara, and James A. Doemer, for your
statistics. There are two reports of approximately 40 days
and one of approximately 180 days. That's encouraging.

I received my packet in little more than a month. It was a huge amount of
material.

Are you a descendant of Edward Scanlon (b. abt. 1839) and Mary Carr of
Sarnia, Lambton Co, Ontario, Canada?

snipped....

I received over 300 pages for a soldier and it took six weeks to get it.
Recently, in only four weeks, I received about twelve pages. So, I am happy
with their speed of service.

Thanks for the information, Christopher. I can remember when
I had to wait at least four weeks to get *anything*.

No, but who knows about earlier? My great-grandfather was
James Scanlon, b. 1866, Ireland, son of William, b. ca.
1831, son of Matthew.

Could be that we're distant cousins by marriage. Mary Carr was my 3rd Great
Grandaunt.
