Arthur Boese, I can't find one that's married to a Betty or Elizabeth in
1920 or with children named Mildred and Ralph. I'm thinking that either
the enumerator and/or ancestry has messed up the last name, although I
did a search for a Ralph, no last name, but with his birthyear, and came
up empty in the 1920 census (looking in Ohio, but a country-wide search
on the first and last names didn't bring me any hits either). Arthur
and Elizabeth could have been divorced prior to the 1920 census, and it
appears that Elizabeth and Oscar Atkinson were wed in the early 1920s.
I find Ralph in the household of his step-father in the 1930 Federal
Census. They're living in Perrysville, Ashland County, OH. Mildred is
not in the household and I don't find a Mildred Boese in the death index
for Ohio (at the Ohio Historical Society,
http://www.ohiohistory.org/index.html) so I'm guessing that she was
married by then - or living with Arthur, who I can't find.
Year: 1930; Census Place: Perrysville, Ashland, Ohio; Roll: 1749; Page:
2A; Enumeration District: 4
Atkinson, Oscar L., Head, 34, age at first marriage, 27, born OH,
parents born OH, construction-builder, gasline
Elizabeth, wife, 41, age at first marriage, 22, born OH, father born OH,
mother born IN, no occupation
Boese, Ralph, stepson (had her son, but the 'her' is marked over and
'step' written over it), 16, born OH, parents born OH, no occupation
(Oscar Leroy Atkinson, died 1939, buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in
Ashland County, veteran of WWI)
I can also find the birth and death date for Ralph W. Boese - born
January 14, 1914 and died March 14, 1974, in Mansfield, Richland County,
Ohio.
Do you know if Arthur had a middle name, or how the last name was
pronounced? It could be that Arthur is the middle name, and that the
first name was something else.
Sorry that I couldn't have found more information for you. I'm sure
it's there, it's just a matter of figuring out how the name(s) are indexed.

Re: Boese, Arthur
Cathy, thanks for the lookup on Arthur Boese. the one thing I didn't know
was Oscar Atkinson's death and burial info. I will check to learn
pronunciation of BOESE - that may be helpful. Otherwise, he (and Mildred)
remain a mystery!
Thanks again.
