Hi...
I am looking for census and any other information on the following family.
First name Last name Occupation Age Sex Arrived Origin
Ship
Fredricka Ahrens Infant 6 m 26 Nov 1845
Germany Ocean
Henry Ahrens Child, Youngster 4 M 26 Nov 1845

John Gerh. Ahrens Farmer 30 M 26 Nov 1845
Germany Ocean
Marg. Ahrens Farmer 25 F 26 Nov 1845
Germany Ocean
Wilhelm Ahrens Child,Youngster 2 M 26 Nov 1845 Germany
Ocean
This information is their arrival record at Castle Garden. Fredricka, the
daughter, married Frederick Levine, which were my 2nd great grandparents.
I'm not sure where the family settled, but Frederick and Fredricka's son,
William Henry Levine married Susan Grace Eggleston in 1901, in Buffalo, New
York, and was always told that is where the Ahrens family was. Please, no
links to Ancestry.com images, they always say that I've exceeded my maximum
number of image views.
Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Re: John Ahrens family.
I'm not having a lot of success with this, or maybe it would be more
accurate to say that I'm having TOO much success? There are a lot of
Ahrens in New York, and quite a few of them with these names. I can't
find Frederick or Fredericka in the 1870 Federal Census, nor can I find
Fredericka's siblings in the 1880 Federal Census (IF the family shown
below IS the correct one).
I think I've found the family in the 1870 Federal Census - if it's not
them, then it's a close match. But Fredericka doesn't seem to be there,
unless she's going by a different name. The son Henry shown on the
immigration information easily fits with the son John H. Ahrens in this
family. The age of Margaret is off, though, and the place of birth for
John H. Ahrens is also off - but, I've seen worse discrepancies on a family:
Year: 1870; Census Place: Brooklyn Ward 13, Kings, New York; Roll:
M593_954; Page: 635
Ahrens, John H., 25, Grocer, born New York
John C., 56, Cooper, born Germany
Margaret, 45, born Germany
Anne, 17, born New York
Caroline, 14, born New York
William, 11, born Illinois
Seimen or Seimer, John, 26, Clerk in Grocery, born Germany
You probably already have this (although the age for John Ahrens doesn't
match up with either the 1870 listing above or the Castle Garden
information):
Year: 1880; Census Place: Buffalo, Erie, New York; Roll: T9_830; Family
History Film: 1254830; Page: 192.4000; Enumeration District: 145;
Lewein, Frederick, 47, Laborer, born Mecklenburg, parents born Mecklenburg
Federicka, 41, wife, keeping house, born NY, parents born Mecklenburg
Louisa, 15, daughter, at home, born NY, father born Meck, mother born NY
Johanna, 9, daughter, born NY, father born Meck, mother born NY
Caroline, 6, daughter, born NY, father born Meck, mother born NY
Frederick, 3, son, born NY, father born Meck, mother born NY
William, 1, son, born NY, father born Meck, mother born NY
Ahrens, John, 78, boarder, , laborer, born Mecklenburg, parents born
Mecklenburg, suffers from old age
The Erie County, NY GenWeb site doesn't have much online, except for
where to write for records.
I'm sorry that I couldn't have been of more help.

In News dVWOh.458$YJ4.235@newsfe23.lga,, Huntersglenn at
huntersglenn@cox.net, typed this:
The first entries were not them.
This is definitely the family. Yes, I've seen this but the effort is
appreciated. I was hoping for the 1850 or 1860 Census for John and his
wife, whose name I haven't found yet. I've often wondered if "Lewein" was
the original spelling. It would make sense. The German "w" is pronounced
like the English "v".
Actually, You've been a great help in many searches as I recall.

I don't think that's the right arrival record. I looked it up and next to
Fredericka's age it says died. Here's another one that might be the family
you're looking for:
New York Passenger lists
21 May 1863
ship: Donau
place of origin: Germany
John Ahrens 58 m
Carl Ahrens 27 m
Fred~ Ahrens 21 f
Fritz 24 m
Sophie 20 f
I found Fredericka and family in the 1870 census:
1870 Erie Co, NY, Buffalo Ward 7, p. 205
#1328 Fritz Lewrine 38 m w laberer Mekelburg
Federicka Lewrine 28 f w keeping house Mekelburg
